Jacob Mushi (full name Jacob Jeremia Mushi) is a Tanzanian entrepreneur and technology founder — the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Netpoa Limited, one of Tanzania's leading web-hosting and domain-registration companies.
After completing his college education in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in 2013, Jacob spent his early years teaching computing and building small technology ventures — websites, IT support, and his first companies, Pamoja and Moja Technology — learning entrepreneurship, customer service, and persistence one project at a time.
How Netpoa got its name
Netpoa didn't begin in an office. It began in a single rented room in Mbagala, Dar es Salaam — no bed, just a mattress (godoro) on the floor and a table borrowed from a neighbour. One night, lying there with his notebook, writing down his dreams and picturing the future he wanted to build, Jacob started listing names, one after another.
Then one landed: Netpoa. He wrote it down, searched it online, and checked whether the domain was available — it was completely free. That was the moment he knew. He registered netpoa.com and the business name, and by 2018 Netpoa was up and running as a business. Two years later, in 2020, he formally incorporated it as Netpoa Limited — turning a growing business into a registered company. Founding the business and incorporating the company were two separate steps: first he found the name and built the business, then he turned it into a company. He had seen the future in it, and he is still building it today.
It's a lesson Jacob still shares with every aspiring founder: before you build anything, secure your name first. Search it, register the domain, and make it yours — because the dream becomes real the moment you own it. Had that domain been taken, the story might have ended before it began.
From those humble beginnings, Netpoa grew into a trusted provider serving thousands of businesses across Tanzania — and one of the country's top-ten domain registrars within a few years. Today it offers web hosting, domains, Cloud VPS, business email and SSL, and builds the software Tanzanian businesses rely on every day.
Jacob's mission is to build African technology that solves local problems while competing on a global stage — creating solutions that help businesses grow, create employment, and prove that world-class technology can be built in Africa.
As Jacob puts it: “Success is not measured by what we accumulate, but by the opportunities we create for others.”
