Senior PHP Engineer (Sanya Business)

Engineering Full-time 📍 Dar es Salaam · in-office or hybrid
Details

Work on the Sanya Business multi-tenant SaaS — accounting, payroll, inventory, statutory compliance for Tanzanian SMEs. PHP 8.2, MySQL, vanilla front-end, mobile-first.

Sanya Business is our multi-tenant SaaS — accounting, payroll, HR, inventory and statutory compliance for Tanzanian SMEs, used by 100+ businesses. You'll ship features real customers rely on daily, owning them end-to-end from design to deploy to support.

What you'll do

  • Build and maintain features across Sanya Business (PHP 8.2, MySQL, vanilla JS, mobile-first).
  • Design clean database schemas and migrations in our DB-per-tenant architecture.
  • Get Tanzanian tax logic right — VAT, PAYE bands, NSSF, WCF, SDL.
  • Review peers' code and keep the codebase simple rather than clever.
  • Talk to customers directly to understand problems before building.

What we're looking for

  • 3+ years building production PHP web apps (PHP 8 preferred).
  • Strong SQL and relational data modelling on MySQL/MariaDB.
  • Solid vanilla front-end — HTML/CSS/JS — without heavy frameworks.
  • Care about correctness, security, and readable code.
  • Based in or willing to relocate to Dar es Salaam.

Bonus points

  • Multi-tenant SaaS or accounting/ERP experience.
  • Familiarity with cPanel/Linux hosting.

  • Comfortable with DNS, TLS, mail (Postfix/Dovecot), and MySQL operations.

How we work

What it's like.

🇹🇿

Tanzanian-first

We solve problems for Tanzanian businesses. Tax codes, mobile money, payroll bands — local context informs every decision.

📦

Ship the boring stuff

Most of what we build is invoicing, payroll, hosting tickets, SMS reminders. Useful, durable, generates revenue. No "AI-powered" anything unless it actually helps.

🛠

Small team, real ownership

You'll own features end-to-end — design, code, deploy, support. Every engineer talks to customers regularly.

📈

Profitable from day one

No VC runway pressure. We grow at the rate the market actually demands. That means stable hiring and longer planning horizons.

💬

Plain communication

No buzzwords, no theatrics. Write things down clearly. Disagree productively.

🌍

Local first, remote-friendly

Office in Kijitonyama, Dar es Salaam. Some roles open to hybrid. Engineering team works 4 days in-office, 1 day remote by default.
